About us

OUR AIMS

At Cygnets Nursery we aim to support your child through the start of their education.

We aim to provide a stimulating and caring environment in which your child will be able to explore phonics, maths, music, arts and crafts and social skills. The children can experience free play in the Home Corner which will help them to work alongside each other and include each other in their game. The Home Corner changes regularly and will at one time be the local Post Office, Fruit Stall, Doctors Surgery or even Airport Check In!

Pre-numeracy and Literacy skills are taught through number/song rhymes, play dough, sand and water. We aim to make learning fun and keep the children, as well as ourselves, interested through variety. Arts and crafts material are out to use every day and the children’s work will regularly come home (to be displayed on the kitchen wall!) and displayed on our notice boards in the nursery.
We hope that during your child’s time at Cygnets they will become confident, co-operative individuals. We will encourage them to respect both themselves and other people.

As part of familiarising your child with school life we attend the schools Family Service on a Thursday morning. Parents are welcome to attend, and the service is lead either by the Head teacher, or visiting speakers. We also watch the school Nativity Play, join in with their Easter Bonnet Party and Sports Day all needing parents to attend!

BEGINNING AND END OF THE DAY

Please note that staff cannot allow children in before 8.45am or until there are two members of staff in the nursery.  At 9.00am the gates to the playground and the side security gate will be locked and you will need to buzz through at the security gate in order to alert a member of staff.   At the end of the session, either 11.45 or 12.45, you will need to come to the gate and buzz through, in order for us to let you through the security gate.  We ask that you notify us if anyone other than the main parent/carer is to collect your child, and fill in and sign a permission form to confirm your changes in arrangement. Only adult’s, aged 16 and over, with suitable identification will be authorised to collect children.

SETTLING IN

You are welcome to come into the nursery for a visit with your child prior to starting. You will not be charged for this visit and you and your child are welcome to stay for the whole session.

CLOTHING

Please dress your child suitably for messy and outdoor play. If it is a chilly morning please send a jacket in as we will go out to play if it isn’t raining. If it is a sunny morning please put sun cream on before they come to school and send them in with a sun hat. We have playtime at 11.00am before the sun gets too hot.   Please do not send your child to the nursery with jewellery. If your child has pierced ears please make sure they wear only studs when they are attending a session. Although we try to discourage your child from bringing in toys, we will have a show and tell time. These times will be displayed on the notice board outside the nursery.

SPECIAL NEEDS / EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES

Some children need more help than others, and we will try to meet this challenge by enabling every child to reach their full potential. Children with special needs will be admitted to Cygnets after consultation between parents / carer and the owner. They will be offered an individual curriculum to help them, and one to one help if required.

DISCIPLINE

Any incidents that happen between children at the nursery will be dealt with on the day. We do not believe in any form of physical punishment, but we will deal with any disruptive behaviour firmly. Parents will be told of any incidents that occur and how it was dealt with.

PARENTS AS PARTNERS

Please feel free to come in and see us if you have anything you are concerned about. We are always available to talk to in confidence and will help as best we can.

ABSENCES / SICKNESS

Please call to let us know if your child will not be attending a session. If this is due to sickness and your child has had sickness, diarrhoea, sore throat or conjunctivitis please leave it 24 hours before they return. This is as much to stop the spread of bugs amongst the nursery children as to protect the staff from illness.
If a child is taken ill at school we will endeavour to contact the main parent/carer to come and collect them. For this reason it is very important that we have all the contact numbers needed – when your child feels poorly they really need to be at home, snuggled up in bed.
If your child has antibiotics prescribed by your doctor, we will administer the lunchtime dose (if they are prescribed a four times a day dosage). You will need to fill in the relevant form, giving us permission to do this. The medicine should be handed to a member of staff (not given to the child to give to us), where it will be kept safe until needed.

PAYMENTS

Payment will be every half term on receipt of an invoice from us. Fees are paid by cheque or cash to the manager six weeks in advance. I regret that I am unable to refund any fees due to illness or holidays. If you withdraw your child from the nursery for any reason we will require four weeks notice or a full six weeks fee if no notice is given. Cheques should be payable to Cygnets Nursery Ltd.

NURSERY EDUCATION GRANTS   ( NEGS )

Once your child turns three he/she will be eligible for a Nursery Education Grant. This is paid directly to the Nursery by the council. This payment starts at the beginning of the term after their third birthday, so if your childs birthday is in October you will receive the grant at the beginning of January.  The grant now covers 15 hours, and is 'flexible'.  If your child attends more than 15 hours per week, you will be invoiced for the additional hours your child attends.
